#SCREWPILING IN THE DARKNESS

There's no need to be afraid when constructing late at night - in fact when you engage professionals, it actually has some benefits.

Our client recently approached us to say that a section of the #screwpiles we were installing outside the classroom would need to be done at night - so they could keep the fire escape open during the day time.

To which our skilled team of professionals went away and dilligently planned out, with the following key points:
- SAFETY SAFETY SAFETY!!! If you muck with peoples sleep routines, and make them work in the dark - then you have a recipe for disaster....
- LIGHTING - you'll need decent lumination from multiple locations. "Less is more" does not apply to this situation, as the operators of big machinery need to see people around them (and the pinch points!). You don't want dark spots, or shadows.
- COSTS MORE: Paying for workers at night costs more, but it's usually only for a small period of time. All that lighting (see above) comes at a cost too.
- STAKEHOLDER MANAGEMENT: you'll need to assess that the noise (and the light!) generated at night won't disturb other nearby residents or stakeholders. Luckily, screw piling is probably the quietest method out there!
- PLANNING: You can't rely on an array of mechanics or other suppliers to turn up on a quick phone call... so you need to engage these key people/trades to be on call... again, luckily screw piling isn't reliant on spoil removal, or concrete supply (keeping the batching plant open is EXPENSIVE!!!) to still hit the daily productivities.

But for all of the above - you can actually increase your onsite productivity as there are less subcontractors/people around - so less disruptions - so the site team can free the arms and get on with it.

Who would have thought that screw piles are just as serene at night as they are in the day!
